Dear Maverick,

I checked my GPS and Alaska is reeeaaaallllyyyy far away (4600 miles), are you sure you heard right? Maybe he meant one of the other “A” states, there are a few of them.
I did just get new brakes and tires, maybe that’s a bad sign.
See you on the road,

Tom, Maverick, and Ruth the Van will be driving the Alaska Highway, or ALCAN. They plan to enter Canada in Montana, and drive north to intersect the ALCAN. The highway to connect Alaska to the rest of the US was first proposed in the 1920’s, but wasn’t built until WWII, opening to the public in 1948. The road starts in Dawson Creek, British Columbia, and runs through the Yukon and into Delta Junction, Alaska. Over the years the route has been improved, shortened, and finally paved the entire way!
The road begins at mile 0 in Dawson Creek is marked by mileposts, which change over time as the road is shortened and improved. For more details about the route, the Milepost web site is a helpful resource – https://themilepost.com/routes/alaska-highway/
