Around town

Dear Ruth the Van,

Lots of stuff seems to be happening in town this weekend, mom said it’s the start of summer, and everyone is excited. She walked around yesterday afternoon and heard some bands playing at the craft fair in town. All of the food trucks are out, and there was even a softball tournament going on this weekend.

The shoe Northern Exposure was based on Talkeetna, and mom was really excited to see the house with the local radio station in it, she said it reminded her of the show!

It was so crowded, the Roadhouse restaurant was all all sold out of cinnamon rolls, so she went back this morning to get a couple, I don’t think she’s going to share with me, but man they smell delicious.

She said early morning in town was empty and really nice. She walked down to the river and got to sit there for a bit. I think we are going to start going there on Sunday mornings.

Dads been getting some flying in while we have been out exploring. He’s finished almost finished his glacier landing training, and is getting to meet lots of new people. He has a pretty cool “office” view.

It’s been rainy here some, so when dad can’t fly, we go hang out with him and keep him company at work. Getting to see me is the best part of his day.

Cheers!

Mav

  1. Dear Maverick and Ruth, I am so excited to hear about Northern Exposure being filmed in your town. Your mom and I loved that show and used to watch it together a lot. I remember a few times sitting on her bed and watching it with her. Of course that was long before you knew your mom. So excited you are all having an interesting summer and dad is getting to fly a lot. We love you allNana

  2. Mav –

So great to spend the day with you! Talkeetna looks like a nice place. Sorry you didn’t get any cinnamon rolls, though.

Summer hasn’t started here just yet. We’ll be looking for Talkeetna weather soon enough! So far it’s been a fine spring with lots of hikes and few bathes.

My hoomans are talking about Alaska in 2025 – for their 60th B’Day Celebrations. They’ve made no mention of me coming. Dad said he’d like to fly with Your Dad and meet your neighbor the Dog Man, Martin Buser. Mom is not thrilled with landing on a glacier. Something about crevasses, whatever those are.

    Thanks for the update!
